If wonders never cease. Ghost in the Shell actress, Scarlett Johansson, just agreed to play Kim Jong Il in the biopic movie about Korea's aggressive monarch.
The Asian community is incensed over this news, as Hollywood continues to white wash Asian roles for American audiences. They continue to get overlooked on this issue over and over. Whether the movie is Doctor Strange, Ghost in the Shell or Netflix's upcoming Death Note, the Asian acting community cannot get a fair shake.
Tom Berring, director of Kim Jong Il, had this to say about the choice to put Scarlett as the lead role. "It was a tough decision choosing a Western actress to play the North Korean leader. It came down to the fact that no one is better at being an overweight Korean with authority issues better than Scarlett Johansson.
When asked if Tom had considered any Korean actors for the role he grew awkwardly quiet. He then replied almost apologetically, "I didn't know Korea had actors."
